18 Inches

He says he believes
Jesus Christ is Lord
Son of God, Son of man

Yet that belief hasn’t traveled
Or made its way
18 inches into his heart

There is no desire to know God more
No hunger read His word
Or commune with God through prayer

Obedience is lacking
Holiness is not increasing
The Holy Spirit doesn’t reside within

He continues on in his sin, just like before
No conscience to bother him
Or bring about repentance

He says believes Christ is Lord
His belief hasn’t yet traveled
18 inches into his heart

But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.  You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble!   But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead? – James 2:18-20

Hi Susan, pleasure to have you visit my blog the other day. Very nice poem you've written. Our lives must provide the evidence of our confession. Blessings.

Dear Wanda,

Thank you so much for stopping by. You are correct and if our lives lack that evidence of that true saving faith...may we run to the throne of grace of our merciful and compassionate God who desires that we would come to repentance.

Blessing in Christ...Susan

Hi Susan,
I love your poem. I fear so many have an intellectual knowledge of Christ, think they are saved but are not. Thank you for sharing and God bless,
Ken

Expressed so beautifully...that is just great. So, so sad that so many that profess still don't really know Him.

Hello Ken and Jeanette,

Thank you for stopping by and your kind words.

May we all examine ourselves in light of scripture and ask God to reveal to us if we are not in the faith or if we are going through a season where we stopped growing. My we have the ears to hear the truth from His Holy Spirit and the Word of God.

Blessings...Susan

Examine Yourselves....one of my favorite messages by Paul David Washer. Most of my children (4 of 5) will tell you they are Christians...but their lives say otherwise. I am continuing to pray like crazy....for them, and others who profess to know Him, but their lives are bearing bad fruit. Narrow is the way....
(I just re-visited my blog post from a few weeks ago and spotted your comment....glad to met you, Susan!)

Hi Cyn,

Good to meet you via blogging. That's one of the most frightening thoughts that there's a lot of people out there who believe they are Christians, but there lives lack fruit bearing. The best thing we can do is to continue to pray. Lord willing they will come to a genuine faith in Christ.

I've not heard of Paul David Washer, but I'll have to listen to the message.

Thanks for stopping by. Susan
