Five Minute Friday – On Any Given Day

On any given day, whose voice am I listening to?

Am I listening to the Voice of Truth?

Do I take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ?

Do I choose to think on that which is true, noble, just and pure, lovely, of good report, virtuous and praiseworthy?

Do I choose to believe the best about people?  Don’t I want them to think the best about me?

What would my day look like if I did that?

Or do my thoughts follow my emotions and ever changing moods?

Do I listen to the voice of my enemy…the one who only seeks to kill, steal and destroy?

Why would I want to listen to someone who is a known liar…a liar from the beginning?  Someone in whom there is no truth?

Or do I listen to God’s voice through His Word?

When praying do I stop to listen?

Do I believe that in Christ I am a new creation, the old has gone and the new has come?

Do I believe that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me?

Am I ready to say, “I can’t, God can…let’s go!”

Susan,
Its no coincidence that your blog is the one I get the privledge of reading now on this early Saturday morning.
But I loved what you said of "holding every thought captive to the obedience of Christ."
Its a reminder to me that obedience in not just manifested in our outward actions. Obedience begins in our thoughts.
Looking foward to subscribing...

Hi there! Thanks for stopping by my blog. I appreciate it.

I enjoyed this post. I've been thinking a lot lately about my need to remove distractions so I can listen better to His voice. This was timely.

What a great list of reflection questions! I think we all go through similar thoughts, sometimes.

Thank you for sharing!

Why does it seem so much easier to listen to the bad over the good? I think it's so much easier to hear to enemies voice because he screams. Listening the Lord's still quiet voice means we have to get close. I wonder if that's why He chose still and quiet? So we'd have to come close. If He screamed to talk to us, there would be no need for closeness. No need to develop a real relationship. I really want to try to go close and stay close today! Great post. Thanks!

For sure on any given day there are many voices competing for our attention. Great questions for one to consider when shifting through those voices.

Dear Wanda...I like the thought you shared that we need to sift through the voices we hear.

Kellie...I like your observation that if God shouted at us...there would be no need for closeness.

Eli...may we all stay attuned to the Holy Spirit and not tune Him out.

Linda...I certainly agree with you that we need to remove some of the distractions that drown out the voice of the Lord.

Charis...I like what you said that "obedience begins with our thoughts." Amen! Those thoughts are a reflection of our heart.

Thanks for stopping by my place this week. :)

Taking those thoughts captive has been life-saving for me at times. It's easy to listen to the lies that the enemy would like for me to believe. I've learned to replace those lies with the truth.

Hi Susan,
A lot to think about in this post. Excellent point, "Why would I want to listen to someone who is a known liar…a liar from the beginning? Someone in whom there is no truth?"
God bless,
Ken
